A Fash-Imp-Prevention – Intervention of Impulse Prevention

How many of us have stood at a concession stand only to purchase a piece of gum by whim? Well, obviously it wasn’t a thought to think; it was just an impulse made! Two seconds into that watery chew; you find out it far from suits your taste - and just like that; you toss it right behind you!

Well this my indulging readers, is no where near as simple! When impulse buys are confined to merely the isles in a market; that’s fine  — just buy buy buy for days. But when you’re purchasing a piece to suit another kind of taste (not talking about your taste buds here) that’s something that we suggest you take a few breaths, count to ten and simply just maybe find a less whimsical way?

Let’s call this a fash-imp-prevention.. An intervention for us fashion aficionados who spree with instinctive impetus! This is one intervention that will give us the means to voyage in prevention from going home with our “MSCHF Birkenstock Sandals”; only to say “What the heck was I thinking?” Not to make us feel like this is a ‘twelve-step-program’ but we weren’t thinking, and this is a far buy from the gum we chewed impulsively. Even more so, this is a far cry for help! Fear be furthest away from you; for you and I will find mutual aid in our fellowship of finding the ways to find our styles, know our tastes and perfect on the outside how settled we feel in our own skin.

Now tell me, do you impulse buy? Come on don’t be shy — we all do it; but when you do, do you end up regretting it? Upon your regretful reflection; what do you do? Do you keep your piece in hope to one day incorporate in your looks; or would you rather consign? Impulse buys aren’t a judging matter of what is right or what is wrong. It’s a well-rounded effect driven solely by emotions; and we do it incessantly for it gives us instant satisfaction. Impulse buys reflect rapid decisions in response to little cognitive consideration and disregard for consequences — in short; it’s an unplanned urge. My one piece of advice; proceed in a state of consciousness. Ask yourself all you need to; curate a wardrobe for all the kinds of lives you can live, create a vision board and always spree with a plan!

We’ve all lusted and longed for a handbag that we felt would just make our lives complete! I’m just as guilty as charged, for I’ll admit to my indulged impulse of buying an item (or two) that I later found didn’t fit my style or merely feel my mood! I’m termed the soul of impulse buys when it comes to soles and a shoe; whereas when purchasing a handbag; I buy in a reassessed state of mind. A back story that got me to tackle this topic with you -- I’d had months to think about my purchase, but that was it - she owned my heart and I needed her home with me! Balloons, confetti, and a welcome wagon waited my unrequited love to arrive. I got stuck in lockdown and stuck I felt with guilt that, unguided; I’ve purchased through yet another thoughtless whim.. Thoughtless days fell right in line with the gum I tossed behind, and I rose in alert; that this is the time to give in my membership to fast fashion and set the pace to match my soul and style. Smart choices, sustainably versatile staples, and slow fashion! That is my new approach into one decisive decade!

Awareness! That is relatively everything. ‘Spring cleaning’ months before spring was the most invigorating spree I could have ever went on! The process of decluttering contained a resembling emotion of the overwhelmed experience when standing in a Bottega boutique. You see what suits you, and what doesn’t — and your kept items stun in a new found shine. With the smart choices we’re confiding in now; we know we have investment pieces; and they hold their money’s worth. Give your pre-owned pieces, to your local consignment shop. With bags and boxes filling my room; I sorted, categorized and sold my pre-loved purchases on my personal pre-owned platform.

And that was the beginning of the journey for me; and I see my creation in the capsule wardrobe with nothing but absolute clarity. My focus has re-shifted on more than just a fashion fad. Fashion is forever, and so my buys are meant to last! Forever pieces are what I plan to purchase; and that’s how I see my style for the foreseeable fashionable future.
